Frequently Asked Questions

  • If your order includes wedding dresses and/or bouquets, you should purchase a Bridal Illustration. These are priced to account for the additional time needed to draw these in detail.

If your order does not included those items, then you should purchase a Portrait Illustration.

  • I am here to help you bring your vision to life, so technically as many as you want!

Custom portraits can be ordered through my online shop or you can complete the form on my home page to contact me directly. However, the more people you have in the portrait, the less detail each person will have due to the need to draw smaller and/or overlapping people.

If you want more than 6 people in your portrait, please contact me directly via the form on my home page for a more accurate quote.

  • In my online shop, you will see that I have standard size options listed for each item. There is no price adjustment based on size (one of the many perks of buying digital art and printing it yourself!).

If you are interested in a size that is not listed in my online shop, please contact me directly via the form on my home page and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I can create artwork at any size upon request.

It is not recommended to buy artwork in a size that you do not also intend to print in. My artwork is created using Procreate, which uses rastor graphics. This means they diminish in quality when you try to scale them up or down.

  • Short Answer: Yes!

Custom Pet Stickers: Obviously a yes :)

Custom Event Stickers with Portraits: Pets faces can be used on these as well! In my shop, I recommend a max of 2 faces per sticker. These can be human faces or animal faces (or a mix of both). If you want stickers with more than 2 faces (ie. Bride, Groom + a pet) I can certainly make that work too. Simply fill out the form on my home page and I will get back to you with a free quote.

Custom Illustrations: Absolutely! If you are looking to include pets in your illustration (bridal or regular portrait), I recommend that you fill out the form on my home page for a free quote.

Custom Love Story Illustrations: Yes! If one of your milestones / locations involves animals or pets, they will be included.

  • This is a very important step because the artwork I create for you can only be as detailed as the photos you provide to me.

    Quality

    Good lighting / contrast
    Clear foreground and background
    Not blurry
    Accurate color
Whole subject is in the photograph / collection of photographs (not cut off)
The photo angles are the same across reference photos (ie. all taken from eye level)

    Quantity

If you have one photo you want me to illustrate exactly as is, fantastic! I have done plenty of illustrations based on just one reference photo. If, however, there are specific details in the photo you want captured in my illustration (ie. lace, jewelry, etc), additional reference photos / close up photos are recommended. There is no such thing as too many reference photos!

I am also able to create the perfect illustration for you based on a collection of photos, rather than one main photo. This could be a family portrait based on individual photos of each person or a portrait created using the best aspects of several different photos (this pose, that hair, this lighting / colors, etc). Again, the more reference photos the better.

When sharing your photos with me via email, if file size becomes an issue, I can talk you through how to use WeTransfer instead (a free, internet-based file transfer service).

  • On average, the total working time required to complete each piece is:

Custom Bridal Illustrations (Full Color): 5 hours per person

Custom Bridal Illustrations (B+W): 1.5 hours per person

Custom Portrait Illustrations (Full Color): 3 hours per person

Custom Portrait Illustrations (B+W): 45 minutes per person

    Stickers: 5-30 minutes per design

I also have a full-time corporate job, a part-time job as a dog sitter and a personal life to balance. For these reasons, I determine final turnaround times on an order-by-order basis, factoring in all of the above, the number of orders I have pending, and your individual needs (like the date the item is needed).

If you ever have any questions or concerns about timing, just shoot me an email. I do advise that you book early to ensure a positive outcome.

  • Transparency is very important to me and my clients are always top of mind when determining my prices. As an artist, there are 3 variables contributing to price: cost of materials, time and fees.

COST OF MATERIALS: One reason I decided to go digital is because it allows me to have lower prices. Enabling you to print your own orders eliminates additional costs due to added materials, time and shipping fees. It also gives you creative freedom over where and how you print. Not to mention the capability to print as many copies as you want!

COST OF TIME: The time put into an artwork is primarily what you are paying an artist for. Custom Bridal Illustrations (Full Color) take 5 hours per person, Custom Portrait Illustrations (Full Color) take 3 hours per person and stickers take 5-30 minutes to complete depending on the design. To put this into perspective, I am averaging less than minimum wage.

FEES: Buying directly from me is cheaper than buying through a third-party, like Etsy, because they charge fees. That is why I built my own website!

  • The difference between an event portrait and a portrait ordered through the KBall Creations shop is the amount of detail / time spent on the artwork.

Event illustrations contain no facial features, basic shading / texture details and take less time to complete. Custom portraits ordered through the shop contain more facial features, higher attention to shading / texture and take more time to complete. Both contain the same highly accurate black outline, to ensure the subject/s of the portrait are easily identified.

Kristen prides herself in being able to capture the essence of every person she illustrates, rather than churning out portraits of generic bodies and faces.
